2026 BRDC Classic - pit and paddock

I was reflecting on my BRDC Classic article published on PistonClick recently. Whilst it largely focuses on what happened on track, there was much less of the pit and paddock action.

Access to the cars and drivers is one of the key features of events like the BRDC Classic. This is especially true given the way that high profile series like F1 and WEC have retreated behind fences, barriers and extra cost tickets.

For the BRDC Classic, Silverstone had set up the paddock by race for most series – in a similar way that the Le Mans Classic and Goodwood.

Behind the pit garages, there was an area marked with barriers where cars assembled before each race. This area was for team members, officials, drivers and media only, but there was considerable scope to get shots from the other side of the barrier.

In the pitlane, for a paying spectator, the limit of access is the front of the pit garages. As with the assembly area in the paddock, this does mean that as a spectator, you can’t always get the angle you would like and are at the mercy of people getting in your shot.

The pit garages were all open for spectators to walk through. Care was needed - the pit garages are a working area.
